Microsoft Ecosystem at the HSG

As a business university, the University of St. Gallen (HSG) has always been strongly oriented towards Microsoft solutions. Based on a data protection audit conducted together with the canton of St. Gallen, Microsoft 365 solutions are being successively introduced. The lockdown has massively accelerated the Teams rollout, for example. Other solutions are being used for the intranet and corporate collaboration. In addition, Power BI is used heavily for data visualizations in the areas of HSG IT dashboards, program management cockpit and in teaching at the Institute for Ac-counting-Controlling and Auditing, as well as in the future in the area of “Business Intelligence”.

The Microsoft ecosystem at HSG also includes Forms for surveys, Bookings for various booking requests, OneNote for logging tasks, Decisions for meeting support, Authenticator for multi-factor authentication, Streams to provide videos, To-Do and Planner for task and task management. Some institutes also use Dynamics Online as their CRM.

In the backend, Microsoft technologies are also used wherever possible. These are e.g. server operating systems, middleware, programming language and others. For extensive Azure use, the hands are currently still tied for data protection reasons. At best, a hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) will provide a remedy in the future.
